Once again WFP is on the road with New Belgium's Tour de Fat. The intrepid travelers and representatives this year are Evan P Schneider, editor of Boneshaker: A Bicycling Almanac, and Andrew Bohn, the incomparable ombudsman and woodworking wizard. The first show of the year was in Palmer Square in the heart of the heartland, Chicago. The parade ride was mellowly labyrinthine, cruising the streets of the Logan Square neighborhood for more than half an hour, as we navigated pock-marked roads and experienced waves, honks, frowns, and smiles from onlookers and passersby. Once back at the event grounds, the crowd was open-armed and thirsty, as we made our encore to last year's debut. Evan and Andrew both had their first on-stage appearances in more than two decades (you no doubt remember their excellent elementary school performances playing the recorder in New Jersey and New Mexico respectively), cameoing as the personified Recycling and Landfill characters in the introductory song and dance number. The rest of the afternoon was spent alternating around our gypsy cart nomadic engagement device, which opened its wings to the public to teach about bicycling and local sustainable agriculture. Thanks to all who came and picked up the newest issues of both Matter and Boneshaker.
See you next year, Chi-town!
Next stop- Minneapolis.
